When my hero, Ann Rule, wrote, "The Stranger Beside Me", the ultimate true crime novel about serial killer Ted Bundy, her first, she was embarking on a story about one of the most notorious men in serial killerdom. She knew Ted, worked with him and had a history. I think that made for a really good novel that sparked her career at America's premiere true crime novelist.
I plan on being more like this duck you see above. Energetic, enthusiastic and able to rise above the wave of criticism that is Palm Springs' crime of electronic harassment and Laurie LaTweek. Admittedly, I have taken some time recently to allow my team to catch up on some evidence gathering and to understand my approach. This is a very different kind of crime. When the criminal knows what you are thinking, then you have to be smarter about what you think and how you think it.
Christopher is always at the forefront of this project. It is now and will always be about "the promise" I made to his mom. It keeps me focused. Now there is just so much more involved than saving him from Laurie...there are so many families that count on me to bring you the story as I know it. Who better? The "stranger beside me" is a whole lot stranger than Ted Bundy. She leaves so much more evidence behind and oh those lies.
We will only have an answer when God allows us to have it, but we have work to do. Unwraveling twenty plus years of terror takes a whole lot of time.
Happy 2014 everyone...I'll take to it like a duck to water!!!
