The date is November 1982, when the hairstyles were big, the Go-Go's were punk and it was time for the big homecoming game!!!
On or about the week of November 6 1982, my friend Kelly Brandon had tragically broken up with her boyfriend, the super foxy Marc LeDrew, and all was not right in fairytale land. You know the story...Marc was a senior and lookin for a good time and Kelly was the nicest girl in school and a "good time" meant the movies and some serious hand holding. Kelly, a strong southern beauty and daughter of the Colonel on the 29 Palms MGACC was not about to be a conquest and she stuck to her morals. Good girl Kelly, you were always a princess to me...here she is:
So here's where the Laurie LaTweek comes in...ready? This will set the stage for years of high school torture at the hands of the MOST jealous and vindictive girl in school.
This is from the mouth of Marc LeDrew as I recall it from my memory so forgive me Marc if I get this wrong.
Kelly broke up with Marc who was a teenage quarterback ready to have his first sexual experience. Kelly, being a really nice girl and one of my best friends, was not the type of girl to be pressured into something like that. Marc, played his, "I'm the hottest guy in school card" and lost...and a week or so before Homecoming they broke up. I know, tragedy in Paradise...
True to form, the quarterback asked around in the locker room for the "best way for him to solve his virginity problem" and the answer was Laurie LaTweek. This ends well people so don't think me a cad...
So for two whole days, Marc LeDrew, in his testosterone stupor drove home the ever horny Laurie LaTweek. But a strange thing happened on the way to the condom in his wallet...Marc thought that Laurie was, let's say, a bit too aggressive for him...and decided that Laurie seemed a bit too interested in what Kelly Brandon was thinking about...and just before the big game...like a hot potato, Marc dumped Laurie and ran back to Princess Kelly where he belonged, restoring order to the world.
Now the story that Laurie told everyone for years and years was that she was "the other woman" and that she'd broken up Marc and Kelly because he liked her better. The story goes on and on to include that Marc was almost proposing to her...and was in a battle royale with Sgt. Bryan Anderson for Laurie's affection in the Palm Springs, California area....according to Laurie, she was the "homecoming queen" and the most popular girl in school...
Laurie's version was nothing but pure fantasy and her "relationship" with Marc and Bryan is nothing but a total lie that she has turned into "married to Bryan" and divorced with kids...and having affairs and so on and so forth. In the restraining order from the City of La Quinta, of course, the petitioner hasn't seen or heard from Sgt. Anderson since high school...yeah, yeah, yeah.
The reality is that Laurie wasn't dating either and she stole pictures of mine and found out that Kelly Brandon and I were close friends that ALSO went to homecoming games after Marc graduated. She is a super girl, but Laurie has always had animosity towards her...according to Laurie, "she's the girl that stole Marc away from her"...um, not true at all. From what I understand Marc and Kelly remained friends for years afterwards...but Laurie's hatred for me and all parties involved grew and GREW.
I thought I would post a few pictures for Laurie to remember that week that she got "dumped"... the week that order was restored for the Princess and the Quarterback.
If you look closely you can see my sister is here too...
If you will notice, look how closely Marc and Kelly were dancing...it was like a fairy tale come true...unfortunately, you don't see Laurie in any of these pictures, though I do recall seeing a trail of tears leading out the door to the bathroom where something sexual probably happened...but not something with Marc or Kelly. As the story goes...Marc and Kelly would remain non sexual partners until they both got married to other people and kept their wedding presents for the people that they would eventually marry and have families with.
See guys, not all quarterbacks are jerks...and not all princesses can be convinced...sometimes the quarterback and the princess are just really really nice people. I'm still glad to call them my friends.
1982 TPHS Sophomore Homecoming Princess
Ms. Kelly Brandon, my friend.
(Laurie LaTweek did not go on to Homecoming Courtdom in the future either...poor thing.)
My point for posting all of this is for the book that I am writing, just in case I misplace the picture file and because I want everyone to know the "real story" of why Laurie hates me so much.
I guess that Marc and Kelly thing was like Laurie's biggest letdown in life and she sees me as someone to blame for it. I really had nothing to do with it, but I've always been her favorite target for hate. Kelly and Marc are friends of mine. I've always admired them and haven't seen them in many many years.
I know that Marc would laugh at this and Kelly would think, "that girl is so weird", that was so long ago...but you know Laurie...it was just like yesterday for her.
She wears my high school class ring...my letterman's jacket...has my broken front tooth from the night I was raped...the gold bracelet and video iPod my parents gave me...my underwear...and has my scrapbook in her home. She tells stories about "her life" that are from MY stolen diaries...and acts like she's me.
The reason I am telling you this is because thirty years later, I want to move on. I want my boyfriend Christopher with me...and this all behind me...I don't want to know her and I don't want any more of my friends to have to put up with her...
Enjoy everyone...
