As this project grows and grows and the scope of this crime in Palm Springs, California gets larger and more sinister, I continue to get the kind of attention that one would expect from this kind of project. Last night I was contacted by Firecracker Films about a new television series about Targeted Individuals of Electronic Harassment for a pilot that they are shooting.
The last time this happened and I was contacted by the "Conspiracy Theory: Jesse Ventura" people, Laurie decided to get her big fat nose involved and we didn't get on the show. That will change in the near future. The Palm Springs' victim base is far too large and far too concentrated in the gay community to be ignored by the rest of the world.
In picking and choosing the projects that this blog will be featured on, I make decisions based on how their project views the victims of this crime and their families. We all know that the Palm Springs Police Department has done a terrific job of supporting this crime so I have to do an equally beautiful job in exposing it with the integrity of the victims in place. With a crime like electronic harassment you have an obligation to represent the victims in the most hospitable of light, always reminding myself that my story is only one of thousands...so I embark carefully on the projects that I choose to associate myself with.
The KMIR 6 story by Angela Monroe has really sparked interest in this crime in our area and we really have people like Bob Stansfield and Randy Ringger for coming forward and doing those interviews. You can't imagine how many sites now have that programming on. It's really quite amazing to think that our police department has been so secretive about their relationship with Laurie and Brian LaTweek. This will not serve them well in the future.
As you all know, I am a fan of DreamWorks...television and movies...they have leadership that embodies the gay community and let's face it, they are the best. I haven't received the kind of support that I want from them as yet....but I do know that over time they will find that this project has the heart and soul of a DreamWorks film. There is a balance between getting the information out in a timely manner and getting it out with the right people. When is it the right time? Who do I go with? These decisions would be better made with Jeff and Marilyn Katzenberg...but for now, I make them alone.
