I think so many people have got so many problems with so many things right now because they are confused about one simple issue. What is the true price of freedom? It's really a simple answer when you know what I know. The price of freedom is speech. You speak...and pay the price of freedom in understanding other people's opinions. You have the right to disagree or agree, but you don't have the right to take away their right to express their freedom to speak. The freedom to speak is the price of freedom and expression. Nobody should ever have the right, in a free society to take away another person's right to free speech. That's what we left England for and came here to build. A country built on the concept of free speech.
We didn't like taxation without representation and we didn't like not being able to speak without being free from punishment for our thoughts being expressed. This whole thing about what should we be able to say is a moot point. We are allowed to say what we want. We are allowed to express our opinions as we choose. What we do as Americans to express our feelings about "the flag", "the government", the president", "war" and "peace" is up to the individual. That is what we are allowed to do. It is our constitutional right to believe as we choose and demonstrate that how we choose...if it is offensive to someone or not, it is our right.
This whole situation we have in this country right now about what is and is not appropriate is a moot point. It's like art. What is and is not art is up to the beholder. We, as Americans, are allowed to express our opinions, non violently in all forums.
What we need to understand is the yin and yang of what is perceived. What is offensive must be countered by what is not offensive. You don't need to stop offensive speech. You need to stop offensive behavior. It's the actions that are illegal, not the speech. What is not allowed are the illegal actions of some, the speech isn't going to hurt anyone...the actions can kill.
For years the gay male community of Palm Springs has paid a heavy price for anyone that spoke out about "Sara" or "Jessica", the drug dealing urban legend, who was known to intentionally sell drugs to gay men then call the police on them as soon as they walked out the door. Then they would soon end up becoming HIV positive without any explanation...all infected by a woman. Then came me...the "HateLisa" guy from San Diego. I knew about the "female drug dealer" and told everyone in our community that, "I did not want to meet her!" I was very clear about it too! Do not introduce me to "Jessica". I've known female drug dealers all of my life and not a single one of them was any good at it. They all sucked. "Jessica" was no exception and I knew she was the worst of the worst...low and behold, it turned out to be Lori.
Pretending to be "Jessica" or "Sheree Frey", the sister of my then boyfriend, Steven Frey, Lori had spent years telling everyone about the guy that she did this to from high school. I'm that guy. There are others too. Not many of us, just a few, but enough of us so that there is proof. When I got word that some girl from high school had done this to me, she picked the name "Lisa" so as to throw me off the track. There is a girl from high school that lives across the street from her mom and now deceased father named Lisa...but she is a beautiful friend of mine whom I love very much. She is allegedly another victim of Lori's. I'm not 100% sure, but I'm thinking that she is involved as a victim as well. I love her like a friend and have known her since childhood. All of my friends love her...we grew up together. Even my fifth grade teacher, Mr. Smith and his wife, know her. She's one of our group...and she's a sweetheart.
That Lisa, isn't the Palm Springs "Lisa"...she's just one of the group of kids we grew up with that my group of friends loves and cherishes as a dear friend. We all stick together since we all grew up together.
Lori lives because of the silence that she imposes with threats...the price of Freedom is speech and torture is silence. If everyone told what they knew...we'd all be free. This is a terrific example of what happens when free speech is abridged. This country is in a downward spiral because someone is trying to abridge the victims' freedom of speech...if Steph Curry and Klay Thompson want an example to hang their basketball net on, we've got the rim. Use it gentlemen. This is what happens when nobody is allowed to speak up!!!
