You know how successful people usually have a period where they are riding a set of waves of good times...like a set of good waves in to the shore? It's kind of like when Lady Gaga put out The Fame, then The Fame Monster and she could do no wrong. You know? At that point in her career Stephanie was "it" (and she still is in my book) but you just knew it would be a matter of time before people would take pot shots at her right? That's what I like to call "success surfing" and I'm so sick of seeing it.
Most recently I've seen it with Taylor Swift, whom, by all accounts, especially mine, is one of the nicest people in the world of entertainment and in general. She gives of her time to her fans and friends like very few people do. Yet, as soon as other people get to the point where they need to feel that they want a piece of her success, they start talking. You need not say who, because it's everywhere...but let's face it, it just gets old. Taylor is a nice person, does everyone in the world not understand that?
Success surfing is something that Lori has been doing to me my entire life. Everything that I accomplish she has to latch on to like it is something that she has to destroy to make herself feel better about herself. I don't understand what that is all about. I want to send everyone a message on behalf of those of us that are nice people that have been drug down by the people that feel the need to ride a wave that we have of success that we started with hard work and talent. Listen, you can do what we've done too without all that chatter...just be good at what you do and be nice to people. Talk about what you are good at and leave other people out of it. What we do, we do. What you do, you do. People like Taylor Swift are good at what they do because they try harder at it...that doesn't mean you have to blow out their bright candle to make yours shine. Light your own candle and put it up in your window.
There is room in your own beautiful window for your own candle...I'm sure that both Taylor and I would admire it just like you admire ours. It's time to appreciate without depreciating....it's all about being nice.
