Tonight, driving home, pondering the situation I find myself in, I was asked a question by Laurie, a viciously self professed athiest, a question that I thought was rather offensive. See if you do.
"Where is your God now Kevin!?"
As the boyfriend of a Lutheran priest, I found her usual hateful tone and poisonous message to be as filled with rage as usual, but I want to assure her of a few answers that I know:
He isn't in your crotch.
He isn't in Jeffrey's bank account or in his wallet no matter how often Missy looks for you.
He isn't in a gay porn movie.
He isn't with you when you rape gay men and give them HIV.
He isn't the person that did this to you.
He's the person that gave you the free will to do what you've done.
My God is in Heaven, Laurie, with you father, watching you be as obnoxious a drug addict as he's ever seen. I am certain that your father is not surprised by this and that at some point you will find yourself wonder why you ever questioned his existence or his location. If you don't, it's because you don't realize the charmed life you've had for the last thirty years without being caught.
