This, everyone, is Mr. George Soros, whose nonprofit Open Society Foundations are interested in fighting hate crimes to the tune of a $10 million donation here in America due to the rise in recent activities as a result of a change in the political structure of the country. I've spent just a very brief time trying to understand and wrap my head around what his OSF does, but it sure does sound a whole lot like what I believe in. A society that looks at the marginalized and tries to understand that nobody knows everything. There is something to be said about a person that does not believe that society will ever be perfect but that should always strive to understand the misunderstood.
Someone, like Laurie, always seeks to have "unchecked power" over someone else....that just can't happen without someone losing their civil rights and someone losing their ability to do their job without compromising someone else's civil rights. In our case, certain police officers did one thing for Laurie, then continued to have that one thing exploited until they continued to do other things to hurt the gay community. Eventually that led to many cases of gay men losing their rights and equality in investigations of rape and burglaries in favor of police arrests and promotions and Laurie's strangle hold over the LGBTQ community. We, gay men and women, lost, but nobody knew or cared.
