How could someone steal $38,000 from a bank account that they could not have known existed? They simply spied until they found a sucker. They talked the sucker into taking it. Then they relied on a reputable person's status to sell the deal. It was 8 1/2 or 9 years ago when Bessie Smith, whom I have zero contact with, went to my sister to ask for every single dime in my bank account. There is no way she could have known I had that account. Yet, she still managed to scam my sister out of my money and convince her to lie to me about it.
