BioHacking: Then There Is The Case Of Grindhouse Wetware in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Billed as a technology that augments the human experience, this company is making the same kinds of advancements that turn humans into cyborgs.  Unlike a nose piercing or adding elf ears to your body's physical appearance, this company is looking to assist people that want to use their bodies to internalize the technology that will make them part of technology.  It's a choice that many people have made and arguably it is their own decision, but how aware are these people about someone like Lori LaFond?

You see there are people out there that don't mind intermingling technology inside the human body.  Arguably there are uses for combining the two, but I don't know if these people have ever had to hear Lori manipulating their sex and social lives.  If they had, I'm wondering if they would still feel that this technology has been fully understood.  I'm not trying to pass judgment on these kinds of people, but I do hope that we can shed some light on the OTHER THINGS that this tech can provide to someone like a serial rapist or killer.

Is it really better for you to pass your hand over a door lock to open it if someone is waiting inside to ambush you because they knew your location due to the same tech?  What if they knew that some of these mind criminals were infecting "chippers" with HIV when they were sending an EEG that said that "chipper is now sleeping or knocked out"?  You see there are ethical concerns that need to be dealt with.  There is also the hacking of hardware that Grindhouse calls "wetware"...your information from your credit cards is already being stolen without you knowing it from a reader in the pocket of the guy standing behind you in the grocery store.  What if that same guy gets your address, phone number, social security number, driver's license, and other personal information while he steals your credit card and PIN?  Have you thought about what kind of person does that?

My thought is to bring this topic with all the bad things along with the helpful things to the forefront.  I know that my experience will convince many people to avoid this kind of cyborg creation without safeguards.  It's one thing to combine technology with tissue, but connecting man to a machine is a different story.

Certainly, cortical implants and heart monitors are a good use of technology inside the body.  There have been pacemakers and hearing aids that benefit mankind, but there is a downside that I'd love to talk to Grindhouse about.  It's important to know that with every advancement there is an equal and opposite criminal waiting to exploit it.  Rape and AIDS should make us think twice...
