When you see young Gerald (G-Eazy) Gillum, what you are looking at is one smart cat. I see a guy who is a lot like myself without trying to compliment me. A family made self made guy that knows what's going on and how to go about getting it. If you don't know Gerry's story, then you really don't know the half of him, it's really kind of an adventure and really kind of sticky bitter sweet, like most of us. Nothing is easy in this world, you have to work for it. Making it look easy, that's just Gerry.
I have a concept that I like to skip by G-Eazy that's I like to characterize as "From Motown to Yotown" which is dealing with starting your own music label under your own terms but learning to market yourself like a pro. Learning how to produce like the big boys but, as Gerry has taught me, and others, at a tenth of the cost of "big music". In this day and age of home production and home editing, there is a new star born every day in the heart of the willing. It's all about how badly you want out of that small town life you live in? How badly do you want that dream of other people hearing your talent? It doesn't take what it use to, to make a record and get it into the hands of the kids that want to listen to it. It takes work, it takes talent and know how. Are you willing to learn from someone like Gerry and others that are willing to find talented people like you?
From "Motown to Yotown"...means you can succeed without a big record label, but you have to become your own promotional tool...your own best resource for your particular talent...and you need people that believe in you too. Do you know you have what it takes? The ones that say yes, immediately, those are the ones that can do what Gerry has done, if they are willing to put in the effort.
He's exceptionally talented, educated, hard working and real...are you? Maturity helps too. Drive. Can you accept criticism? Can you accept help? You have to be willing to learn in order to succeed.
I just like thanking Gerry for the help he's given me with what I do, because it works outside of the music field too. Dreaming to reality is not limited to entertainment. It has no limits.
