Okay all of you Hollywood types, my team is looking for quality and meaningful LGBTQ documentaries for us to take a look at. We know all about the "Celluloid Closet" and "Harvey Milk" and want to know what you think is a good and informative documentary for my team to peruse. I am trying to motivate them to greater heights...advocacy needs inspiration.
Tonight I watched Kevin Smith's (Silent Bob) documentary called "Gay Bar Small Town" about the culture behind small gay bars in the Bible belt. It was a good reminder to me about where I came from and the direction that Palm Springs, California is headed thanks largely to the lies and fraud created by Laurie and Brian LaQueer.
If you have any suggestions for films of any size in documentary form that you've seen at a festival or elsewhere or you know of one in production, let us know. Lance Bass has also created a beautiful film about the process of gay conversion therapy that should also be mentioned. "Kidnapped for Christ" is a terrific example of eye opening film making that calls attention to aspects of being gay that some may not have thought of.
My suggestion for Palm Springs is called the "Homo Caust" about how long it takes a gay community to recover from decades of intentional infections and electronic harassment...the unforeseen decimation of the gay community. To recover it will take 60 years of heterosexual child births to rebuild the community we once had here.
