If you aren't feeling the smooth and spiritual vibe that this cat gives off, you probably aren't breathing. This is my favorite artist and he's local. His name is Bret Philpot and I think of him as a big brother and a terrific friend. While working on this project he had the occasion to save my ass more than once and I've never forgotten what he did for me. He's probably the nicest man I've ever met and more in touch with whom he is than anybody I know.
Yes, Laurie forced her way into meeting him too, but Bret never told me about it. As usual Laurie pulled some kind of "I work for the police special forces unit" crap and told him that even though I was sober, that I was using drugs while staying with him. At one point her brother, Brian, broke into Bret's home and wrote in my diary and let Bret's cat outside the house...that was a great source of tension. I couldn't tell Bret that someone else had done it because he wouldn't have believed me. Laurie and Brian sent me to his home one other time in the middle of the night which was another great source of tension and embarrassment...neither time was I using drugs, but it was impossible to understand. Maybe he'll understand knowing that he, once too, believed her story and didn't tell me about it. I hope so.
Bret is an amazing artist with a future as bright as the sun that drenches his beautiful canvases...I hope to introduce all of you to his unique brand of Basquiat inspired art...he is a true original and I love him dearly:
