When a sociopath is confronted with the truth she is conflicted between the lies she has told herself will keep her safe and the facts that won't.
Laurie sees herself as an actress...a normal sister that does abnormal things....a manipulator that is so good that nobody sees the obvious manipulation. The truth is that we are all lucky to have been stalked by such and obvious criminal. If it hadn't been for the police helping her all along the way it would have been much easier to gain a conviction against her long ago.
This is one of those situations where people will wonder "what could I have done to prevent this from happening?" The truth is that being honest about it is the best approach. It is safest. Silence is a part of shame and that makes this crime worse. Whatever your story is, tell it. The is a certain amount of self supporting satisfaction in knowing that no matter what, you did the best thing...you told the truth.
