Further proof that Mayor Steve Pougnet is a Pollyana-ish uppity gay man is understated. How is it possible for the Mayor of Palm Springs to extoll the virtues of a city that is completely under siege. For Steve to claim that Palm Springs deserves the same type of equality rating for the LGBT community as say a city like San Francisco is alarming to say the least.
Now let's not fool ourselves...we all know that the mayor has a responsibility to bring gay business to Palm Springs and to make it look as inviting as possible. Bully for him. The truth is that for every Steve Pougnet there are like 200 Kevin Bonds....and that is why this city is full of shit. Just because Steve gets to attend lavish banquets with uppity gay men and women that blow sunshine and big rainbows up his ass DOES NOT MEAN that we deserve 100% rating for LGBT equality here. I think that 77% was accurate the first go around and it isn't any better.
This is a city riddled with electronic harassment and a police department with officers that make tremendously bad choices all the way up the chain of command to the Chief of Police that is supposed to be a temporary position for Al Franz. He's been doing that job since Chief Duhminquez was forced out after the Warm Sands sting. Perhaps this is just posturing for the storm to come.
I will never let anyone think that this city is safe for middle class gays...NEVER. It is not safe.
