For 26 years I have been HIV positive and now I am still healthy and undetectable...and I am so grateful to everyone that came before me and those who told me that I would be okay. Do you know what that bitch Laurie tells people?
Well, first she tried to tell people that I had something to do with infecting her brother or her...I don't even know if she is positive, she might not be, but one thing is for certain, I had nothing to do with infecting anyone. Laurie might just say things like that because she's mean. I know nothing of her HIV status nor is it any of my business...as long as she isn't infecting my friends or pretending that she is.
Something that I have heard from a lot of people is that she tells people that HIV medication is not safe and that if they are HIV positive that they shouldn't take the meds. That's just crap everyone. The new medications are extremely effective and working with your doctor to achieve undetectable status is something that can be done very easily by getting tested and going to the Desert AIDS Project in Palm Springs or in your city. They can guide you through the process of getting tested anonymously, counseling, prescription coverage and programs to help you deal with this disease. It is so important that you know that the medications have very few side effects like they use to have...so it is vital that you do everything you can to prevent HIV infection.
One of the very best things that POLICE, MEDICAL STAFF, PARAMEDICS and HEALTH CARE GIVERS can do is prevent HIV infection before it even happens now. Gloves and safety measures should always be followed but now it is recommended that these people also take the medications if they are in a high risk job of coming into contact with the virus.
Truvada by the Gilead company is the first pill FDA approved for HIV prevention...it is taken once daily and can prevent HIV infections in cops, nurses, doctors, surgeons, health care givers, paramedics...and it can prevent transmission between partners when one person is HIV positive and the other is HIV negative. It is recommended that BOTH partners take the pill to prevent infection.
Laurie's 30 year old position that, "the meds make you sick" is antiquated and wrong. She even tells Christian that he can't take this medication if he is HIV positive...if he does take it, he has to share it with her brother Brian...that's such bullshit. I do know that she did steal all of my HIV meds prior to the Sedona, Arizona trip and Leah Fauntleroy told her to give them back to me because I needed them. Thank you Leah. That was nice.
So the bottom line is this. HIV infection is your business...not Laurie's. Prevention isn't as hard as it use to be either...that is also your business. Assume everyone is positive and be safe...that's the best advice I could ever give.
